I am an Assistant Professor of Operations Management (tenure-tracked), in the department of Business Administration at CUNEF University, Madrid. I attained my doctorate (Ph.D.) with "Honors" in Business Studies, specializing in Operations Management from IE Business School, Madrid, Spain, where Prof. Daniel Corsten was my PhD supervisor. My research interests are centred around Empirical Operations, specifically in the field of Retail Operations, Online Service Platforms, and Gig Work.
My Ph.D. dissertation was on the topic, "Examining the Performance of On-Demand Platforms through Three Lenses: Worker, Store, and Customer". My first chapter discussed factors affecting the productivity and service quality of gig workers who can self-schedule, and how such information could be used to better allocate/suggest tasks. My second chapter examined store-specific factors (such as customer interference and stockouts) that could affect order picking and delivery performance of online grocery platforms. I suggested techniques to improve picking and delivery efficiency, without incurring additional costs. Lastly, my third chapter investigated the factors leading to a switch in customers’ preferred online store brand. In particular, I examined how online out-of-stocks, substitutions, and online purchase experience could affect customers’ store switching, and service (platform)-exit behaviors.
I have taught several courses at both CUNEF, and IE University. At CUNEF, I teach a course on Operations and Logistics Management to undergraduate (BBA) students, and a course on Fundamentals of Business using a case-based teaching methodology. At IE, I designed & taught a doctoral course on Quantitative Methods-II for two consecutive years, where I taught topics in Econometrics such as inference, causality, dealing with endogeneity, and supplemented it with exercises on Stata. I also taught a course on Research Methods to undergraduate students. In addition to that, I was also a teaching assistant to my advisor, in the International MBA & Master’s in Management course in Operations Management.
Prior to joining academics, I worked as a Management Consultant in the Operations & Supply Chain division of one of the Big 4 firms. Previously, I also worked as a Manufacturing Executive in the Foods Business division of an FMCG conglomerate based out of India.
My prior academic experience include an undergrad degree (B.Tech.) in Food Process Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), followed by a graduate degree in Master of Management (MBA) from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB).
